Sony PXW-X160 XAVC and Adobe Premiere Pro CC/CS6/CS5/CS4 Workflow

Can't import Sony PXW-X160 XAVC files to Adobe Premiere Pro for editing? The easy workaround to is to convert Sony PXW-X160 XAVC to a more editing-friendly format for Premiere Pro.



The Sony PXW-X160 is designed for use in broadcasting, production facilities and on corporate and event productions. It can record in XAVC Intra and Long GOP, enabling 10-bit sampling for HD recordings with a long tonal range, and also the MPEG HD422 at 50 Mbps format now used frequently in broadcast and production. It records in MPEG HD420 at 35 Mbps, AVCHD and DV formats as well. While, there are a few issues when it comes to viewing, importing and editing Sony PXW-X160 XAVC files in non-linear editing software like Adobe Premiere. The XAVC video included in PXW-160 is not compatible with most NELs just like from Sony F5/F55. To edit Sony PXW-X160 XAVC footage in Premiere Pro CS4/CS5/CS6/CC smoothly, a suggestion is to use Brorsoft Video Converter for Mac to transcode "XAVC" to MPEG-2, which is a friendly format supported by Adobe PP.

With Mac XAVC converter, you can effortlessly transcode Sony PXW-X160 XAVC files to .mpg – ensuring maximum editing quality and efficiency when working with Premiere Pro. Plus, it supports encoding XAVC/XAVC S to more video editing software compatible file types, i.e. DNxHD for Avid Media Composer, AIC MOV for iMovie 08/09/11, ProRes MOV for Final Cut Pro X/7/6, etc. If you're using a Windows, simply get the equivalent Brorsoft Video Converter to convert Sony PXW-X160 XAVC to Premiere Pro on Windows(Windows 8).

1. Download, install and run the XAVC Converter for Mac; click "Add Videos" icon to load your source XAVC videos from Sony PXW-X160.
